HONSHITSU TO SONO HYOUGEN
ESSENTIAL QUALITIES AND ITS EXPRESSION
On 27 and 28 November 2021, the 10th European Hozonkai Championship was held in Torino, Italy, celebrating the Akita Inu breed in Europe. As part of the event, an AKIHO Benkyoukai seminar was held, offering enthusiasts a rare opportunity to learn more about the breed from experts in Japan.
This time the seminar featured an open panel discussion led by Tony Saporito and Peter van der Lugt, joined by Christoph Wosch, Zuzanna Chade, Susanne Faust, Gioffre Roberto, and Steve Rann. The panelists discussed the perception of the Akita Inu breed in Japan and compared it with its western FCI counterpart.
Accompanying this discussion, a brief presentation on the essential qualities of the Akita Inu breed as outlined in AKIHO's Akita Inu Hyoujun (standard) was given by Peter van der Lugt, emphasizing the profound meaning behind the honshitsu (essential qualities) of the breed.
